Well, bless my soul! I’d say that old furnace of yours is trying to tell you something, just like the old man in a catfish pond. A banging noise could be caused by a few things. It could be that the heat exchanger has expanded and is now hitting against the metal casing. Or it could be that the blower wheel has come loose from its shaft, and every time it turns it’s knocking against the casing. Either way, it’s best to call in a professional, for it’s not a thing to be trifled with, like trying to mend a leaky roof on a windy day.
